I promised you that I'd have one more awesome product to review today and that I would announce the giveaway of all three awesome products that I've discussed this week. The last product is Energy Bits! I had heard great things about Bits online and know that my bloggy friend Cecilia is an Ambassador and loves them! That was enough for me to reach out to Energy Bits and request a sample so I could tell you all about them.
I'll be honest with you--the idea of Energy Bits sort of freaked me out. The tabs are 100% spirulina. Don't know what spirulina is? It's algae. Plain and simple. I don't know about you, but I never dreamed I'd be willingly eating algae. But hey, I'll try most foods once, so I figured--why not?
Here is a little info about Energy Bits from the information page on their website:
"ENERGYbits® algae tabs are 64% protein. Algae has the highest concentration of protein of any food on the planet. Nothing is higher. And why do you need protein? To build your organs, your strength, your lean muscle and also to satisfy your hunger for long periods of time... Protein is critical for everyone but particularly for athletes since it repairs and builds damaged muscles.
Our algae tabs are over 60% protein (three times that of steak)... [e]ven better, our ENERGYbits® algae tabs are 100% spirulina which naturally release nitric oxide into your body along with all that protein and forty other nutrients vitamins.
ENERGYbits® algae tabs have virtually no calories. With no sugar or any artificial ingredients, your body can continue burning fat even after your workout. Each tab is loaded with 40 vitamins and minerals but just ONE calorie so there are no unnecessary calories – just pure nutrition and protein. Since they are so tiny (about the size of a tic tac®), they make you feel satisfied and full, not bloated and fat."
This all sounds promising right? But still--it's algae. I continued to be skeptical up until I actually tried out the bits. Especially right as I was about to taste them--they have a suspiciously fishy scent. The people at Energy Bits recommend just swallowing the tabs rather than chewing them (although you can chew them if you prefer) and I chose to just swallow them after smelling the scent. I didn't really taste anything when I swallowed them, so I was glad about that.
|Yep, that's algae right there.|
If you're still skeptical about the idea of taking algae tabs as a form of nutrition to fuel your workouts, I give you this chart form Energy Bits that shows that bits are the best source of Vitamin B. I don't know about you, but I'd rather eat 30 bits than 25 bananas in order to get my daily dose of Vitamin B1!
Okay, so now for the giveaway! I have samples of each of the products I have reviewed this week and I am putting them all together to make one kick-butt prize pack for a lucky reader. The winner will receive one Sweaty Band, samples of Huma Gel, and a sample of Energy Bits! You'll be fully prepared for whatever training you have coming up in the next month or two! Giveaway ends on Wednesday, 9/11/13. Also, don't forget--today is the last day to sign up for my Keurig Brew Over Ice giveaway!
